North Carolina's Women ''Do Their Bit'' During WWI

When the US entered the war in 1917, women encouraged and supported one another to “do their bit,” puting together care packages for soldiers;
growing & preserving food during severe shortages; raising funds through Liberty Bond drives; and converting a college cafeteria into a quarantine
for locals who had fallen ill with influenza.

Lecture & Discussion on 'Red Sky: Poetry’

Experience poems from all over the globe, from established and award-winning poets as well as emerging voices, about the epidemic of violence against women,
and work with experts to express you own experience. Using poems from the anthology ''Red Sky: Poetry'' on the global epidemic of violence against women
we will discuss how we talk and write about abuse, how violence begets violence, how families and whole communities are affected by this violence,
and how breaking the silence is the first step towards safety and healing. A writing opportunity appropriate for all levels will be led by poets Melissa Hassard,
managing editor of Red Sky, and Debra Kaufman.
